orewa well represented at SLSNR AWARDS OF excellence 2018
Orewa Surf Lifesaving Club & members were named among the winners in many categories throughout the Toyota Northern Region Awards of Excellence held in Auckland, 14 July 2018.
Kailen Brackebush was awarded U14 Sportsman of the Year for his sports performance over the last season both in the pool and at the beach. His attitude and team spirit were some of the things that saw him nominated by Orewa Club for this award and recognised by the judges.
Orewa Junior Club took home the Cath & Eddie Millar cup, an award eagerly battled out at Northern Region Junior Champs. Orewa were also named Junior Competition Club of the Year along with neighbouring club Red Beach.
Orewa and Red Beach also shared the title of Masters Competition Club of the Year.
Mark McCarthny, coach and sweep for four surf boat crews, was named Coach of the Year. 'Macca' and his crews had outstanding results throughout the season. For our life member and long time surf boat sweep this award was very well earned.
Orewa Junior Chairperson, Brenda Larsen, took home the award for Developing Surf Official of the year for her dedication and attitude over the season.
Nick Tomkins was recognised for his work with the education section of Surf Life Saving and awarded Beach Educator of the year.
Orewa Club Chairman, Faron Turner, was awarded Examiner of the Year for the second year in succession in recognition of his dedication across the Northern Region, just one area that Faron has a huge input.
John Chapman, Orewa President, took home the prestigious award of Volunteer of the year for his commitment at club level and service across the region. Johns dedication to Surf Life Saving is outstanding and the hours he devotes goes unnoticed by most, but rightly recognised by the region with this award.
Individual Regional achievements were also recognised through the presentation of a Service Award to Orewa Club member Steve Franich and Distinguished Service Award to Mark Johnston. (pictured left)
Congratulations to all Orewa members who were nominated, chosen as finalists or named as winners. You are all winners in the eyes of the club and we are proud to have you as part of our team.
