orewa takes top awards at SLSNR AWARDS OF excellence 2017 

Orewa Surf Lifesaving Club was named Northern Region Surf Club of the Year at the Awards of Excellence held in Auckland , 12 August 2017. 

The top honour came at the end of a very successful evening for the Orewa club as the achievements of volunteer lifeguards in the Northern Region were recognised across lifesaving, surf sports and regional awards.

Earlier in the evening, Orewa was awarded the rarely achieved double of Best Patrolled Beach and Competition Club of the year.  The Best Patrolled Beach award recognised the efficiencies and effectiveness of the volunteer lifeguards at Orewa Surf Lifesaving Club. The Competition Club of the Year award was awarded to reflect the dominance of the lifeguards who represent Orewa in Surf Sports.

Orewa Club chairman Faron Turner was awarded Examiner of the Year in recognition of his dedication across the Northern Region.

Orewa lifeguard Hamish Lockie was awarded U16 Sportsman of the and Lucy Makaea awarded U16 Sportswomen of the Year. The Club received further sporting trophies as the Pool Champs Club of the Year, the Northern Region Championship trophy and the overall Competition club of the Year.

Individual Regional achievements were also recognised through the presentation of Service awards to Orewa Club members Ian Siddins and Trevor Keinzley. Orewa Club president John Chapman was awarded Life Membership to Northern Region after his countless years of dedicated service to the Surf Lifesaving movement.

Summing up a very satisfying night at the awards, Club Chairman Faron Turner said “We are a Surf Club built on a strong family values and filled with passionate volunteers. Our lifeguards are dedicated to training on the beach, in the water and in the first aid room, so when they are required to respond in an emergency they are the fastest and best they can be”.
