Junior Surf 2017 Prizegiving
Saturday 8 April saw junior surf members gather at the club for the final day of the season, Junior Surf prize giving.
Trophies are awarded on a points system which members accumulate over the season for achievements at club days and carnivals. There is some hot competition every year for these coveted trophies and the recognition of being the best in the group or most improved. Read more here.
Orewa 2nd in Northern Region Rookie Challenge
Under the careful tuition of Mark 'Doc' Johnston Orewa's Rookie team brought home silver medals from the Northern Region Rookie Challenge competition held 26 March 2017. Read more here.
5th at National Champs
A massive logistical effort to coordinate the transportation of 2 Surf Boats, 30 rescue boards, 25 surf skis’, a team of 60 athletes and their families & supporters was well rewarded by the Orewa Surf Lifesaving Clubs performance at the National Champs held at New Brighton, Christchurch last weekend.
The team delivered a very respectable 5th place performance overall in much colder South Island conditions then they are typically used to be competing and training in. Read more here.
Junior Surf B and C group members,10-13 year olds, attended the NZ Junior Surf Champs held at Mt Maunganui 2 - 5 March 2017.
Four long hot days led to some very pleasing results for the athletes, bringing the club in to finish 12th overall out of the 26 clubs competing. Read more here.
Orewa take out top honours at Northern Regional Champs 25 + 26 February 2017
Orewa Surf Lifesaving Club continue to build on their sporting success with a very convincing win at the Northern Region Surf Lifesaving Championships held at Omaha Beach 25 & 26February .
Orewa SLSC secured a massive 235 points, 51 points ahead of second place Red Beach. Points were accumulated across the boat, canoe, beach and surf craft arenas with athletes ranging from under 16 year olds to Masters competitors.
Whilst there were many impressive individual performances, it was the collective effort of the Teams that really shone for the Club. The Lifesaver Relay – an exciting multi-discipline and multi age group event – was a real highlight. Orewa took out both the Gold and Bronze medal placing’s which demonstrated the depth of skills and capability the Club has built. Read more here.
