Northern Regional Pool Rescue Champs.

Orewa Pool Rescue Team are the 2019/20 Northern Region Champions.

The team took to the pool on Saturday the 31st August and Sunday 1st September. Right from the start the team competed hard and rack up a significant points total.

The juniors, during session 1, had many astonishing results and gave the team a large points head start. The pinnacle of this session was a new National Record to Millie Middleton in the U14 Females 50m Swim with Fins. For many of the coaches and team this is the 3rd or 4th time they have competed at the event and the experience within the team has started to rub off onto the newer team members. The settled and fun environment has seen it grow significantly over the last 2 years and the hard work from everyone involved is paying off.

The seniors and masters took to the pool for session 2 and kept the momentum going throughout the session with multiple podium finishes. The teamwork from the senior group and relaxed nature of the team allowed everyone to compete to the highest level which resulted in podium performances across the age groups. The session 2 Highlight came in the form of a National record in the U16 Women’s Medley Relay.

Day 2 started with everyone pool side and when we said everyone, it was a bit of a squash with all of the juniors, seniors and masters together.

This day cemented Orewa as the top club for the Northern Region Pool Rescue Champs with teams from all age groups having multiple podium results which added to the clubs overall points tally. Senior highlights included the clubs most successful Line Throw session (nine podiums) another National record in the U16W 4x50m Obstacle relay and a win in the very competitive 6x50m Open Mixed Mega Relay. The mix of youth and experience came together and has formed a strong team for now and for the future.

The Northern Regional Pool Rescue results puts the Orewa SLSC Pool Rescue Team in a great position going into the national competition.

As a club we have come together over the recent months from administrators behind the scenes, parent helpers, coaches, managers, officials and most importantly as a club and team to make this a successful team.
